Q. Do I have to have a prescription for physical therapy?

A. As of January 1, 2015, the laws in the State of Michigan were changed. Though you are no longer initially required to have a prescription for physical therapy, there are specific guidelines in regards to the number of visits you may have without a physician’s referral. At this time, insurances will not pay for physical or occupational therapy without a formal physician prescription.

Q. How long is my prescription valid?

A. Your prescription is valid for up to 30 days from the date of issue. This means you must begin treatment within 30 days from the date on your prescription.

Q. Will my insurance cover physical therapy?

A. We do accept most types of insurance, including Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Medicare, Blue Care Network, HAP and many others. (Click here to see a full list.) Please call to see if your insurance is in-network with us, as we are constantly updating our in-network provider list. When you call to schedule your appointment, our qualified staff will verify your insurance to determine your coverage.

Q. Once my insurance does pay, how much will I owe?

A. Your costs will depend upon your insurance policy’s deductible and co pays. We encourage you to call and verify your insurance coverage to avoid any possible discrepancies. Our billing department will be able to give you an estimate of your co-pays based on what we are quoted by your insurance company. We do not collect your deductible until after insurance has been satisfied.

Q. If there is still a balance due, does your office set up payment plans?

A. Yes. Depending on the amount outstanding, we will divide the balance due into monthly payments. We determine your first payment date together and establish a formal Payment Agreement. This Agreement is mailed to you for your signature and is returned with your first payment. As long as you make payments as agreed to, we will not take any delinquent action on your account.

Q. If I am injured on the job, do you accept Worker’s Compensation Insurance?

A. Yes, we accept most types of Worker’s Comp. However, we have to receive authorization first from your employer for physical or occupational therapy. We can schedule your initial evaluation for treatment.

Q. I have a busy schedule. When are you open for treatment?

A. We are open Monday through Friday. Our hours are 7:00 am to 8:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. On Wednesday and Friday we are open from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Q. How soon can I get an appointment?

A. We can usually schedule your initial appointment for a date and time within 24 to 48 hours after your call.

Q. What will I need to have with me for my first appointment?

A. You will need to bring your signed prescription from your physician (if you have one), your driver’s license, your insurance card(s) and appropriate attire (see next question).

Q. What should I wear for therapy?

A. Please come prepared. You’ll want to wear shorts (for leg evaluations) or sweatpants, tennis shoes, and a loose shirt (such as a sweat or t-shirt), or in some cases a tank top/sports bra for shoulder evaluations). We have gowns available as well.

Q. How long will my appointments last?

A. Your initial visit will likely last 1 ½ hours and the following visits will last 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Q. Overall, how long will I be in therapy?

A. The duration of your therapy treatment is based on several factors. These include your diagnosis, the number of visits recommended by your physician and therapist, your attendance, and your rate of progression during therapy. Your insurance plan may only allow a specific number of treatments. Treatment can range from 2 to 4 weeks or even up to 3 months depending on these factors.

Q. What is your cancellation policy?

A. Please call ahead to cancel or reschedule an appointment. 3 missed appointments in a row without a call will result in your discharge from treatment.
