For Hand Therapy

WHAT WE UNDERSTAND ABOUT PATIENTS WHO NEED HAND THERAPY

Facing the impact of hand pain and injury can be incredibly difficult for patients of all ages and from all walks of life. Being unable to fully grasp or hold an object or painlessly complete a daily routine has many levels of impact on the quality of life for patients facing this problem.

With this awareness, we:

• have a Certified Hand Therapist* on staff who is dedicated to staying educated on the most up-to-date progressive care methods for hand problems
• exercise great sensitivity in understanding and addressing the challenges most troubling to our patients

*A Certified Hand Therapist is part of an exceptional group of Occupational Therapists or Physical Therapists who have a minimum of five years of clinical experience, including 2,000 hours or more of direct practice in hand therapy. A Certified Hand Therapist must successfully pass a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper extremity rehabilitation.

SUCCESS STORIES TO INSPIRE YOU

He regained full functional use of both of his arms…58 year old electrician sustained 3rd degree burns on both of his arms from an electrical explosion requiring skin grafts. Prior to hand therapy, he had less than 20% motion of his wrists and hands and no functional use. With a regimented treatment program including wound care, scar management, and various exercises for range of motion/strength/coordination and splints, he regained full functional use of both of his arms and was able to return to his job as an electrician.

We created a specialized splint for her hand, giving her the ability to write again…68 year old patient had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis for many years. Her disease had progressed so much over time that she was no longer able to write and pay her bills and as a result had to sign guardianship of her finances over to her daughter. After a few therapy sessions, we were able to create a specialized splint for her hand giving the ability to write again and regain her independence. We were also able to provide her with other recommendations for home modifications that helped her successfully decrease her dependence on her friends and family.
