Repetitive Motion Trauma
This type of injury can occur on the job, while playing sports, or at home. Simply put, it involves repeated stress on a part of the body because you're not using proper form, or you're doing something for too long without a break. Carpal tunnel syndrome, which involves the wrist and hands, is one example. Nerves and muscles become inflamed, making it painful to grip or move your hands. Inflammation and pain can progress to your shoulders or neck as they compensate during your movement.
The injured joint needs time to heal before you begin using it. Treatment can include splinting, learning to perform tasks properly, or altering tasks to protect the area. Sometimes frequent rest breaks, along with stretching and changing your position, make all the difference.
